Rachel Carson was a marine biologist who wrote three popular books about ocean life. She wrote Silent Spring to tell people about the dangers of pesticides, which might kill so many birds that none would be left to sing in the spring. Some people didn’t believe what she said, but President John F. Kennedy was one of the people who listened to her. Rachel’s work brought about change, and she is considered the mother of the modern environmental movement.
