April Martell is an Indigenous songwriter from Cape Breton NS
living in Antigonish. She is a writer first, and after discovering a
love of putting words to music in 2018, she decided to record a
3-4 song demo. She was pointed in the direction of J.P. Cormier,
who agreed to record it for her, but who strongly encouraged a
full length album. With the help of Canada Council for the Arts
and crowdfunding, she was able to complete the album which has
a folk/contemporary sound. Having never planned on being a
performer, she is brand new to the music scene, and hopes to one
day write for other artists.
Her album of original songs is streaming on all platforms, and
physical copies are also available for purchase. She can be found on
YouTube, Facebook and Instagram, where she sometimes shares
covers and plays terrible guitar.
